To help you learn more about Norrad Corporation and how we
have taken speech-recognition one step further, we have put together a set of
questions that we are frequently asked.
1.
Who is Norrad Corporation?
We are a small company who has taken speech recognition
one-step further. Norrad Corporation develops speech-enabled applications and
services for the workers that spend the majority of their time on the road or
out in the field.
We provide the solution for sending emails, instant messages
and filling out forms or reports in a non-office environment such as an
airport, factory floor, walking on the street, or going between locations using
a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA).
Norrad brings to the speech recognition industry over ten
years of experience developing speech-enabled products and services.
Our products are sold to companies that have hundreds of
workers who spend the majority of their time away from the home office, but
still have to fill out forms or reports, send Emails, or communicate through
instant messages (IM). Our applications provide an easy way to enter
information correctly (95% accuracy), quickly and directly into the database
while saving the company money.
2.
How can you save my company money?

How do you Speech-Enable Forms?
All companies have forms or reports that have to be filled
out daily, weekly or monthly. This task can be extremely difficult for the
remote workers who call in the information, enter the information hours after
the event or wait until they get back to the office.
We have made that process easy and efficient
Here
is how it works
- You
give us samples of your standard forms and reports
- We
analyze them to determine which fields use command and control and which
require dictation.
- We
speech-enable these forms based on our analysis
- We
install the forms on your PDA or SmartPhone.
- Once
the speech-enabled forms are downloaded, our support people come to your
site to conduct training sessions in dictation and speaker verification.
- We
continue to offer support to ensure that the transition to speech-enabled
forms is a smooth one.
5.
What do I need to use these
speech-enabled forms?
You need a PDA or a smart phone or any hardware platrform
that supports Microsoft Pocket PC 2002 or 2003
We also recommend a headset with a microphone to improve
noise cancellation and speaker recognition
6.
Do I need a keyboard or a pick to fill
out the speech-enabled forms?
You only need a pick to start the PDA. After that, you can
put away the pick, and begin speaking.
7.
How do I see the form I am filling out
with the PDA’s small screen?
Norrad has solved the small screen problem with a virtual
screen. In other words, when you fill in the field, the system automatically
knows which field you are talking about and goes to that field and fills in the
information you have just spoken.
8.
How does the system know my voice?
By training the system to recognize your voice.
9.
How do I train the system?
Our support group helps you train the system
The training session is a two-part process.
First, you read out loud a series of passages. As you
read, the system becomes familiar with your voice.
As you train, the system may not recognize a word or phrase.
It will indicate to you that it didn’t understand what you said with an audio
message, or by highlighting the text.
You then repeat the word or phrase. Once it recognizes the
information it turns gray on the screen, and you continue with the training.
Second, you set up your voice phrase. This phrase
should be three to five seconds long. The system will ask you to repeat your
phrase up to five times to verify it has understood what you have said. An example phrase is red, white and blue.
10.
What about noise around me when I am
entering information?
Norrad has a noise canceller application which is included
with our applications.
11.
What if I loose connectivity?
If you loose connectivity, our queuing capability saves
the data until connectivity is restored, and then downloads the information.
12.
What if I have a cold?
Just as it is difficult to understand someone who has a
bad cold, the application will also has some difficulty understanding you.
If you are entering information, and the application is
having difficulty understanding , you may have to enter the information by
phonetically spelling the data. If it still has problems, you may have to wait
until you feel better
13.
Why should I use speech-enabled
applications?
Because it is easy to use, it can be used anywhere, it
saves time and money, it frees your hands and it eliminates reporting
errors.
